Bus Touring for Beginners

A tour bus, or “nightliner,” is a converted coach featuring multiple beds and living quarters, sometimes including kitchenette and toilet facilities. UK buses typically range from 8-12 berth single-deckers to 16 berth double-deckers. Equipment travels in towed trailers or separate cargo vehicles.

Bus tour quotes require provisional routing with show dates, cities, and ideally specific venues plus pickup/dropoff locations. Standard inclusions typically cover drivers, fuel, ferries, and road tolls.

One bunk is needed per tour party member. Position bunks with feet toward the front of the bus to protect against impact during emergency stops. Fire exits must remain completely unobstructed at all times.

UK and European regulations strictly limit driving time: maximum 9 hours daily (10 hours twice weekly), maximum 56 hours weekly, mandatory 45-minute breaks after 4.5 hours driving.

Google Maps underestimates bus travel times. Assume 60 kilometres per hour average speed, including fuel and rest stops.
